I think I'll end(for now) with Neon Genesis Evangelion. There's tons of mixed feelings about the story, the characters, and the art depicted in the story. I just thought the robots were cool, so that's why I watched it. I agree though, the characters DO get annoying and all, but I stuck with it, since I saw half of the series already
This anime is about 3 kids (mainly) that have to pilot big robots (Evas) and they're main mission is to destroy enemies called 'Angels'. You'll have to see it to understand :)
