The overview
of the research I've done is mainly in bacteria, namely, E. coli and
B. subtilis. These organisms are very well known species, but there
were many genes that continued to elude the functional genomics techniques.
I focused on transporters ranging from sugar uptake to drug efflux systems.
Knowing molecular
biology wasn't enough to crack these mysteries, we had to utilize bioinformatics
to actually get a hint of what we were working with. The actual experiments
were horrendous...very little, if any, good came out of them.
