The most luxurious of the options we list, the Posada del Tepozteco is the choice of visiting head of state, celebrities, etc, and it's easy to see why. For a price, the Posada del Tepozteco offers handsome grounds, reasonably sized rooms, and an excellent restaurant on-site, with sweeping views from the restaurant's outdoor patio and many of the guest rooms. ~15-20 min walk to the wedding site.

The closest hotel to the site of the party, but not cheap, and with many restrictions. The Posada del Valle is a small hotel and spa with an emphasis on quiet (read: no radio, no TV, no children under 16, no congregating after 9pm). You cannot simply rent a room here, but must book a package. Standard weekend packages include a room for two nights, continental breakfast, massages, and temazcal or turkish bath for both members of your party. Website in Spanish. ~5-7 min walk to the wedding site.

Nilayam

High on value. Formerly Hotel Tepoztlán, this holistic-oriented retreat is in an un-charming (on the outside) building, with 33 clean, comfortable rooms on three decor-thematic floors (inexplicably, Mexican, Japanese, and Hindu). ONLY STAY HERE IF YOU CAN GET A MOUNTAIN-VIEW ROOM--the others look out on the parking lot ("estacionamento")! Suites, with hydromassage tubs and terraces, are the most spacious option. They offer a full array of services, including yoga, reflexology, spinal-column exercises, meditation, music therapy, and more. The hotel has a great view of the mountain. The restaurant features vegetarian cuisine. Three blocks from the Posada del Tepozteco, ~15-20 min walk to the wedding site.

Facilities:
Restaurant; pool; tennis court; spa services; private temazcal (pre-Hispanic sweat lodge)

Quinta Roma

Small, clean rooms, with a shared grassy green space and heated outdoor pool. Good for families with kids. This hotel is ~15 min walking from the Posada del Tepozteco, Nilayam, and Hospedaje Mahe (which are all quite near each other), but is also only a ~15 min walk to the wedding site.

Hospedaje Mahe

This is a good option for budget-minded travelers. Located one block from both Niliyam and Posada de Tepoztlan (it's between them), Hospedaje Mahe has tiny, clean rooms, one fitness machine, and even a small pool on an upper deck, with a view over rooftops to the mountains from the pool area. Most rooms do not have windows, but they do have hot water and private baths. Note there is a flight of very narrow, steep metal stairs to enter the hotel (this is not the place for a giant roller bag). Two blocks from the Posada del Tepozteco, ~15-20 min walk to the wedding site.

We have not been to most of the rental houses. Ask about the road--some may be on severely rutted dirt or lava-rock roads. ALSO ASK IF THEY HAVE HOT WATER, and provide potable (i.e., bottled) water for drinking.

If you rent a house, a refundable security deposit is usually required on top of the standard 50% nonrefundable to reserve the house.

Posada del Tepozteco, Nilayam, and Hospedaje Mahe are all within a few blocks of one another, a short but steep walk up from the center of town (that uphill walk earns you a great view!). It is an easy 5-10 min walk down to the central town square, which is near the market, the Mission, shops, restaurants etc. You could walk to the party from these hotels (~20 min), but it would make more sense to get a taxi, which will only cost a few dollars. Your hotel can easily call you one, and the hotel where we are holding the party can call you one when you want to head home. There will be valet parking at the party in case you are driving.

Most hotels and restaurants take credit cards; most house rentals require cash (pesos only).

For any hotel or house, you should check on how far it is to the site of the party (Casa Bugambilia), as well as from the center of town . You should also ask about package rates if you will stay multiple nights or if you will take multiple rooms.

Some houses and hotels offer car service to and from the airport for USD$100-150.

Some of these places are quite luxurious. Others have small towels, or only have hot water certain hours of the day. In some places you can't flush toilet paper. In other words, the range of amenities is wide; if there's something you absolutely must have, ask.

Note when comparing prices that some houses and hotels may include food, maid service, and (rarely) other extras like massages, yoga, and temazcal (pre-Hispanic sweat lodge) use.
